There are some people who have touched our world in some way with their strengths.
Some would say they were ‘gifted’ in their respective areas.
Einstein and his brilliance.
Mother Theresa and the depth of her compassion.
Michael Jordan and his B-ball ability.
Steve Jobs and his drive to grow a company that creates.
My barista at Starbucks.
The fact is, each of us (yea even you sitting on the couch watching TV), are wired to succeed at something.
The trick is to identify what that 'something' is right?
Well the first step is to find out what you're good at.
No.
What you are great at!
The aforementioned barista at the Starbucks I go to in the morning (shout out to the Deer Park Starbucks).
She is gifted.
She makes a perfect Venti Nonfat with Protein Powder latte each morning.
But her gifts don't end there.
She is kind, friendly not just to me but to all the regulars whom she knows by name.
She connects with us, not at us.
She serves us, not handles us.
She makes us feel welcome each time.
She has a natural optimism that is infectious even on my grumpy days.
She makes me feel at home.
That optimism is in her wiring. In chatting with her as she made my drink I found out she's a widow (she can't be but 25ish) and has a 6 year old daughter whom she treasures. The way she describes the small vignettes of her life, it is clear to me that she is hard wired with an optimistic, supportive and nurturing nature.
She excels at what she does, she is operating in her strength, she is wired to succeed in that career and several others which require her unique strengths (and I'm not talking about the latte folks, even I the kitchen incapable can make a great latte if I followed the instructions).
Its her ability to connect with people through her supportive nature.
And that is what we will explore here, our wired strengths, mine and yours.
Our wired weaknesses (well at least mine) and the crazy but amazing world in which we use them.
Come along ...
