I am sick and tired of everyone talking about success as if its the one thing we are put on this earth for. And the person I am most sick of hearing it from is me!
After spending more than twenty years chasing what I thought was success, I finally woke up and realized significance is my target.
Significance means change.
It means purpose.
It means passion.
Significance means taking the eye off of me and putting it on someone else.
Significance means leaning into my destiny and finally using the talents and strengths I have been blessed with to make a difference.
So today I won't wish you success. Instead I wish you significance.

Great post! Significance makes more sense than the elusive success.

O my! Great post and great courage to speak it. I have been thinking the same thing. I spent years seeking "success" and became indebted to it. The past few years I have been seeking God's purpose (not necessarily mine)and that is where I am finding significanse, purpose and "success"! It is highly likely we will receive "success" as long as it isn't the goal! Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks Sutton, I agree! The word significance turns success on its' ear.

Tom I'm with you, did the exact same thing in that I sought out God's purpose and plan and while I was not 100% confident I moved anyway and the purposeful move to significance has been a 'game changer'. Thanks for your comment!

Very insightful. Our view of "success" looks like "stuff" all too often. The right trappings don't make us "successful". (The usually make us mere mortals saddled with debt....but that's another post). I would call the "treasure" the thing that makes us "success-full". After all...we have treasured gifts that only we can unpack and display to the world.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone make the distinction between success and significance. That seems like an obvious difference now that you pointed it out.
Thanks for giving me something meaningful to chew on today.

Its so true Bernice the 'stuff' is just that and I love your comment about how the treasure makes us success-full!
Love that perspective!

Dean - My pleasure! There's a good book called Success to Significance by Lloyd Reeb that really goes deeper into the subject. I read it a couple of years ago and it still is having an impact.

You finally got the place for me to pin it - I don't want 'success' that is touted, trotted out and displayed and measured by standards that are not aligned with my faith and my beliefs. To be significant, to make a difference, is what we should strive for.
Bright blessings!

So glad it was helpful Shanyn. I have found when we use our strengths in our passion it is a potent combination. Here's to yours!
